Surrounded by 365 white sandy beaches enhanced by the clear blue water of the Caribbean, Antigua is one of the most popular of the Leeward Islands. Antigua is a small island; its sister island, Barbuda, 32 miles due north covers 68 square miles. In both islands, the crime rate is almost non-existent, the atmosphere tranquil and relaxing. The capital of Antigua is St John's and it is also home of the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda and the Cathedral.

During Sailing Week, in May each year, Antigua and Barbuda play host to many of the international yachting fraternity who take part in the regatta. This is the largest yachting event in the world and for seven days there is ocean racing and shore side parties.

Antigua's annual Carnival, which commemorates the earliest abolition of slaves in the British Caribbean, means a week of fetes, steel bands, calypso competitions and the election of a carnival queen.
